January 18th 2017
Valentines’ Day is on the horizon, and whether you are the romantic type, or prefer something a little on the unique side, there is plenty on offer in and around Surrey that, with a bit of planning and forethought, could quite easily make you flavour of the month where your loved one is concerned.
Seeking inspiration? Read on…!
Idea One: Tempting the Taste Buds
We all know Surrey has its fair share of quality eateries and that there is something to suit pretty much every dining related desire. But where to go this Valentines’ Day – or night?
If you fancy a romantic lunch or dinner, check out Trip Advisor’s top 10 most romantic restaurants in Surrey. From sumptuous tapas served in the shade of Hampton Court Palace at the Mezzet Dar or afternoon tea at Great Fosters in Egham, to an open-fire-cosy, hearty pub meal at the Red Lion Inn in the heart of the Surrey Hills or an authentic Nepalese experience at the New Gurkha Kitchen in Reigate – and plenty more – you are certain to find ‘the’ venue that will make Valentines’ Day 2017 seriously special. There are more Valentines’ Day restaurants in Surrey listed right here, and who could fail to give Denbies in Dorking due consideration – check out its two very special Valentines events in the Gallery Restaurant offering panoramic views of the 265-acre vineyard. Just be sure to make your choice and booking without too much delay. There’s no time for procrastination!
Idea Two: Fluttering Hearts
What could possibly cause a loved one’s heart to melt more so than a fluttering of beautiful butterflies? Recently featured on the regional evening news, Wisley Glasshouse in Wisley has been transformed into a tropical paradise featuring thousands of exotic butterflies, all of them freely twinkling past you as you explore the grandeur of this cathedral-esque building. This really is something particularly special and suitable for all ages.
Wisley Glasshouse is open every day till 5th March and adult tickets cost just £11.70. Why not plan an hour or so here then take lunch at the onsite Glasshouse Café? Alternatively there’s The Clock House just over a mile away which is highly rated on Trip Advisor, as are Toby Cottage and Ripley Curry Garden. And there are more – check this link for a selection of places to dine near those gloriously wonderful fluttering butterflies. Go on, make a special day of it!
Idea Three: Indulging Guilty Pleasures
Two things in life guaranteed to please have to be chocolate, and wine. So how about this for a Valentines’ idea sure to really indulge? A wine and chocolate tasting tour! The venue is Denbies Wine Estate on London Road in Dorking. The date is Sunday 12th February, the times 12, 2.30pm and 3.30pm. As the publicity states, ‘indulge your senses with Denbies sparkling wine range and fine chocolates’. Well why not?
Idea Four: Jazzing it Up
If music is your food of love then play on – well at least listen in – at The Electric Theatre in Guildford on 14th February at 7.30pm (doors 6pm). The Jazz Café featuring the Chris Ingham Quartet will fill your ears with melodic memories as the musicians revisit Dudley Moore’s 1960s trio albums. Tickets £14 per person.
